Digital fabrication is a broad term which captures any translation from digital image to material object. This course will equip artists with the basic skills for using these methods and materials in their work. It will serve as a survey and introduction, but specifically work through techniques relevant for sculpture. Students will learn through the design, mold making, and casting of a soy wax candle as a low-pressure entry to the software Rhinoceros3d. The principles will be transferable to sculpture processes like slip casting, but presented in an accessible format with no previous skills required. Each participant in this 4-week course will leave with a physical object they designed and fabricated, the workflow to repeat the process independently, and directions for further exploration. Laptops will be provided during class. He is an architect and researcher who has worked professionally across design, construction, and international exhibitions. His work has been shown at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Onassis Foundation in Athens, and the Festival d’Arquitectures de Barcelona, among other exhibitions he has fabricated and produced. Cancellation Policy: In the event that you need to cancel your registration of the class or workshop, we ask that you please inform us as soon as possible, allowing us to give your spot to another person. We agree to provide you with a full refund if your cancellation is no less than 7 calendar days prior to the first date of the program; if your cancellation is closer in time than 7 calendar days to the first date of the program, then, any deposits or payments you have made are non-returnable. In the event that PHA needs to cancel a class or workshop due to PHA’s own reasons (for e.g., teacher emergency) your payment for the program will be refunded in full. If you are unable to attend a class or workshop for your own reasons, you will not be refunded for that portion of the program. Full payment for the class or workshop is required before your registration is considered complete. Health and Wellness Policy: If you are sick, we ask that you please refrain from attending in consideration of the health and safety of your fellow classmates. Please note that all of our classes and workshops are designed to be hands-on, and make-up classes are not available. Masks will be available at the front desk and in the classroom for your use.
