Cyanotypes and Natural Toners with Mickey Aloisio | 2 Sessions
Description
**This class is fully booked. Please email info@powerhousearts.org to join the waitlist** This workshop explores the rich possibilities of alternative photographic printing using organic materials such as green tea, coffee, and wine. Students will engage in two distinct image-making processes: cameraless photograms and contact printing from digital negatives. Photograms will be created by placing objects directly onto sensitized paper, emphasizing careful composition, silhouettes, and spatial relationships. Students will learn how to manipulate exposure using both the sun and artificial light sources, gaining hands-on experience with the cyanotype process and other techniques that harness UV light. In addition, students will produce digital negatives to create photographic prints with more controlled tonal detail. This process will cover essential technical skills, including digital-to-analog image preparation, paper coating, exposure time, and toning. Sequencing, storytelling, and visual cohesion will be key components of the final project development. Perfect for students interested in sustainable, hands-on image-making, this class offers a blend of technical instruction and creative exploration using everyday materials and accessible tools. A digital camera is not required for this course. Materials are provided. About the Instructor: Mickey Aloisio is an artist currently based in Brooklyn.
