Marbling and Collage with Nazli Efe | 2 sessions
Description
**This class is fully booked. Please email info@powerhousearts.org to join the waitlist.** This class offers a contemporary take on the traditional art of marbling, structured into two engaging sessions. In the first session, students will be introduced to the rich history and global variations of marbling—such as Japanese Suminagashi and Turkish Ebru—followed by demonstrations of various pattern techniques (comb, back-and-forth, swirl, etc.). Students will then create their own marbled designs, transferring them onto paper. Each person will produce at least five unique pieces, which will be dried and used in the following session. This part of the workshop invites a meditative mindset, encouraging students to reflect on control, fluidity, and their interaction with water as a medium. The second session shifts focus to collage-making. Starting with a showcase of diverse collage examples, this class emphasizes creativity, composition, and bold decision-making. Students will use their previously marbled papers to craft colorful, expressive collages—combining a traditional technique with a modern, dynamic approach. By the end, each person will have created at least two vibrant artworks that explore the balance between surrender and control in the creative process. Materials are provided.
