Description

**This class is fully booked. Please email info@powerhousearts.org to join the waitlist** In this playful, hands-on workshop led by artists Elisabeth Adelman and Carla Jerez, students will create imaginative dioramas using upcycled materials. We will kick things off with a short introduction and a look at inspiring examples, followed by a guided “shopping trip” through our curated table of found and recycled materials. Students will design and build their own mini-worlds, transforming everyday “trash” into textured, expressive scenes. Along the way, we will explore themes of resourcefulness and creative problem-solving—prioritizing process, experimentation, and fun over perfection. This class is ideal for anyone curious about making art with what’s already around them. No experience necessary—just bring your imagination. Materials are provided. About the Instructors: Elisabeth Adelman (she/her) holds a BFA in Studio Art from Florida State University, where she studied figural oil painting, printmaking, and installation. Since then, her practice has expanded to include collage, sewing, ceramics, and digital design. She has also worked as a freelance graphic designer for clients in the commercial, television, and music industries. Her recent work explores texture, expression, and accessible 3D materials, often created within limited space and resources. Above all, her priority is process and play. Carla Jerez (she/her)is a video artist and filmmaker with a special interest in digitized girlhood. Her work has screened at venues including Anthology Film Archives, Tower Theater Miami, and, memorably, ebaumsworld.com. Recent projects include the sketch comedy series The Girlgang AU, the short film Burdenette of Dreams (commissioned by Oolite Arts), and a featured role in the web series Bushwitches, which premiered at NewFest. Together, Elisabeth and Carla co-founded the artist collective witchess!, leading the creation of Masks Up, a PSA commissioned by Oolite Arts. For this project, they developed a collaborative process to train and inspire artists to build diorama sets for stop-motion animation. elisabethsclawy.cargo.site carlajerez.com
